MapQuest Classic is the older version of MapQuest.com, which is one of the most popular free driving directions services online, the site has been around for a very long time, it has helped millions of users find better routes and save money by plotting accurate, easy to follow step by step driving directions on high resolution maps.
(Update: The classic maps service is no longer available, the developers of the site felt that they should focus entirely on the new site in order to make it better for all of us. At the official website you’ll be able to access the same features, plus more, such as enhanced directions with helpful tips, the ability to book hotels, cars and flights, and the ability to share maps. Other popular features such as walking and driving directions, the route planner, fuel calculator and gas prices are still available as well at the new MapQuest.com website, but if you haven’t used the new version of the site before you’ll have a hard time finding those features. If you are having problems I suggest using a search engine to find the exact page that you are looking for. So, if you were asking yourself, where did the old site go? Now you know.)
A couple of years ago AOL redesigned their map site in order to make it more user friendly and better looking. The newly redesigned site was called the “New MapQuest”, however, AOL decided to keep the older version of their incredibly popular maps site live and available on the web for everyone to use, which is the site that now everyone knows as “MapQuest Classic”.
